Following the Grenfell Tower disaster, there were calls for a change in the sprinkler systems regulations. There’s no current retrofit requirement in residential buildings, or within the education or healthcare sectors in England. Only new tower blocks and hospitals over 30m high are required to install these systems.
Focusing on retrofits, we sought to pre-empt changes in regulations (driven by the Grenfell Inquiry) by starting a debate around ‘best practice.’ At the heart of the campaign was the White Paper ‘Pressing Matters: Breaking the barriers to retrofitting sprinkler systems in existing building stock’. It showcased modern press-fit technology and how it’s helping to facilitate affordable, quicker and less disruptive sprinkler system installations inside existing buildings.
